This 16th-century full-face vizard mask was discovered in 2010 inside a wall during renovations of a 16th-century stone house in Daventry, England. It is the most intact specimen of its kind.
The vizard was a mask worn by upper-class women in Europe during the 16th century. "This is one of the most bizarre things I've ever come across in fashion history," Dr Edwards says.
