Four students who are slated to graduate from the University of Chicago on Saturday will have their diplomas withheld pending disciplinary proceedings stemming from a pro-Palestine protest on campus.

A petition started by U. of C. pro-Palestinian student groups, demanding that the seniors be granted degrees, has garnered more than 5,000 signatures from university community members.

University of Chicago faculty and students claimed at a news conference Friday the university is circumventing its own disciplinary process to withhold degrees from pro-Palestinian student protesters.
