Tim Duncan is back with the San Antonio Spurs, this time as an assistant coach. The Spurs announced the move Monday, along with the promotion of Will Hardy to assistant coach.

This season, Duncan averaged 15.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in just 29.2 minutes per game, playing in a system expertly devised by Popovich to limit the wear and tear on his body.

All without any fuss or much notice. As a 37- and 38-year-old, Duncan had been about as effective as any big man at that age (with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar being the best comparable).
