Plans for The Couture were first unveiled in 2012 and in 2014 they were updated to include a transit center with a stop for The Hop with the L-Line passing through the base of the building.

The L-Line’s route was initially limited after opening on Oct. 29, 2023. The route only provided service on Sundays without the use of the Lakefront station due to construction at the Couture.
