This Thanksgiving, many in D.C. are hungry. This church tries to help. In an area long considered a food desert, volunteers in Northeast Washington feed those who would otherwise go without.

Phillis Williams, 51, plans to attend Thanksgiving dinner at the church. She moved back to Chicago four weeks ago after staying with her family in Louisiana.

And approximately 40 people signed up to eat their Thanksgiving dinner at the church. Meals included turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, bread and pie.

The church will also distribute prepared Thanksgiving meals from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday. The pastor said he expects to serve an additional 150 families during the giveaway on Thanksgiving day.
