The Looney Tunes cartoon character didn’t originate until the 1954 episode Devil May Hare, in which Bugs Bunny dispatches the Tasmanian devil by, naturally, setting him up with a female.

The animals exist in the wild only in Tasmania, but were popularized by the Warner Bros. character that first appeared in the Looney Tunes series of cartoons in 1954.
