Schmitt said task force members will evaluate which ideas have the potential to become final recommendations and then do more research on those items. Iowa DOGE next meets Aug. 6.

It was officially established Feb. 10. The task force is expected to meet again in August. The governor’s order establishing the task force asked for its final report 180 days after. That is Aug. 9.

The idea was brought up during a meeting on Wednesday, June 4. The task force plans to continue research into consolidating the state’s 99 counties before deciding what to recommend to the governor.
