Researchers from mainland China are taking aim at an established language theory promoted by Taiwan’s ruling party in its efforts to carve out a separate identity for the island.
Taiwanese users, who set the language for their devices as traditional Chinese, soon noticed that Taiwan is listed as "Taiwan Province, China" in simplified Chinese characters in the map app.
