An informal memorial of flowers, cards, drawings and stuffed animals popped up next to the pond on Fayette Street (Rt. 92) after Faye was killed. Swans have been a part of the village since 1905.

Three teenagers from suburban Syracuse have been accused of killing a beloved swan named Faye in a pond in Manlius, New York, and then cooking and eating her, allegedly thinking she was a large duck.

Biologist Michael Bean donated Faye and her mate, Manny, to the village of Manlius for its swan pond in 2010. The two mute swans are not native to the U.S., but are the largest birds in New York.
