The glass flood barrier panels will extend 3-feet, 9-inches above the seawall cap. The portion of the seawall being replaced was damaged by Hurricane Idalia.

Piana said the system could keep out up to 1.10 meters (3 feet, 6 inches) of water in the square, equivalent to a tide of 1.90 meters (6.2 feet) above sea level.

The glass panel was unveiled to signify the completion of Phase 2 of extensive repairs to the Low Battery sea wall. Officials also held a groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 3.
