WCSC reports that as the legend goes, in 1988 at Scape Ore Swamp, Christopher Davis stopped to change a tire, that's when he came face-to-face with the creature.

FPR packs protection, then heads to nearby Scape Ore Swamp. It was here in 1988 that the legend of Lizard Man began. "This is supposedly where the sightings were, these four places," says Ken Sumner.

He lives in Scape Ore Swamp near Bishopville, the legend goes, and was first seen by 17-year-old Christopher Davis going home from work at 2 a.m. on June 29, 1988.

The Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp made Bishopville a tourist destination in 1988. Then the legend went into hiding. After 34 years, the town is fighting to reclaim its monster.

Davis was driving around 2 a.m. one summer morning, when he got a flat tire near Scape Ore Swamp. After he finished changing it, he claimed a "red-eyed devil" appeared about 30-yards away.
