This isn’t the first time Shadow Raids have been available remotely, as Pokemon Go did temporarily test out remote Shadow Raids during Ho-h Shadow Raid Day back in January.

For the first time ever, Remote Raid Passes can be used in Shadow Raids during the event (January 15 to January 19, 2025).

The rollback of remote options for Pokemon GO play was met with deserved criticism after Niantic began reverting COVID-19 changes that allowed for players to come together from far away.

The changes to Shadow Raids will begin with the Crown Clash: Taken Over event on May 13th, and Max Battles will similarly change with Gigantamax Machamp Max Battle Day on May 25th.
