Post Office scandal victims are calling for redress schemes to be taken away from the government completely, ahead of the public inquiry publishing its first findings.

The £75 million redress scheme was set up in December, offering payments of up to £70,000 to veterans to “acknowledge the historic wrongs they experienced in the armed forces”.

The Government will “pursue all levers available” to compel the religious orders to pay redress to victims of historic sex abuse in schools, the Minister for Education Helen McEntee has stated.
