Blount County Register of Deeds Phyllis Lee Crisp said over 100 letters have been sent to residents offering services for property deeds for nearly $100.

“Usually, people aren’t finding out until a home is being built or when you go to sell your property,” St. Charles Co. Recorder of Deeds Mary Dempsey said.

Property title theft is a big problem everywhere in the country, including Michigan, but new bills aimed to stop scammers from filing fake deeds with the county were signed into law.
