Enlarged left atrial appendage of the heart was found in more than half of the patients who have suffered a stroke with no well-defined aetiology, finds a Finnish study.
Participants in the study were adults with recent cryptogenic stroke and biomarker evidence of atrial cardiopathy, such as an enlarged left atrium or high levels of natriuretic peptides.
