Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler, a cornea specialist who does the procedure in Los Angeles, told the Journal there are no published reports of the cosmetic keratopigmentation causing infection.

The procedure is not reversible, but the color can be tweaked if a patient decides they want a different shade. Some doctors say the color may fade over time and a touch-up may be needed.
