In general, ideal poop is Type 3 or Type 4. Type 1 or Type 2, on the other hand, can indicate a person is struggling with constipation. And Types 5, 6 or 7 can suggest diarrhea — though not always.
Type 6: Fluffy pieces with ragged edges, mushy stool. This category on the Bristol Stool Chart could indicate inflammation of the bowel. Type 7: Water, no solid pieces and entirely liquid.
The three new graphics are a modern take on the Bristol Stool Chart which has been used by UK medics since the 1990s to assess the seven types of stools.
