Prior to the Scarlet and Violet expansion, Pokemon TCG cards only had four rarity symbols. These can be found in the bottom right or bottom left corner of the card, usually next to the set number.

Pokemon TCGP also includes promo cards, obtainable from in-game events, wonder picks, the Shop, and promo packs. These can feature unique artwork or symbols not tied to the main rarity hierarchy.

6. Signed No-Rarity Charizard (1996): $324,000 Early Japanese Pokémon prints didn’t have the rarity symbols we see today, making them instantly recognizable to serious collectors.

Following the game's launch in October 2024, Rare Picks had usually included a single ex card in a given Rare Pick, severely limiting the rate at which players could collect the powerful Pokemon.
