Android updates are no longer officially named after desserts, but they are still internally code-named after sweet treats, hence Android 14 is Upside-Down Cake - but the features are just as sweet.

Users have discovered (via Android Authority and 9to5Google) that an innocuous landscape photo is “soft-bricking” some Android phones when it’s used as a background.

This new Android app can take your current location (or any other spot on earth) and turn it into the background image on your phone. It’s available now for $1.99 on Google Play.

Available by default in the first beta release of Android 16 QPR1, Google is adding support for new “Effects” on top of any image you choose to be a wallpaper on your Pixel device.
