Yes, the back of the phone fingerprint sensor is faster than than the in-screen reader. Or so history has shown us. However, we have yet to actually experience what the Pixel 6 can deliver.

In the meantime, if your fingerprint scanner stops working, try the power cycle trick. Turn your phone off completely, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on.

The Pixel 6 fingerprint sensor utilizes enhanced security algorithms. In some instances, these added protections can take longer to verify or require more direct contact with the sensor.

Just to be perfectly clear, the fingerprint sensor bug hit only some Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a users. It didn’t affect any other phones, it would seem.
