Ashley Richards, an 18-year-old flag person originally from Lakeside, N.B., died in August after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 39 near Midale, Sask.

Dozens of people shared a moment of silence on Friday as an orange flag was raised in front of the Peace and Justice Plaza in Chapel Hill in honor of Gun Violence Awareness Month.

The orange flag remained flying above the Tacoma Dome from May 23 through June 4, with the exception of Memorial Day where it was switched for the POW flag.
