Highlights of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument include lava flows, Paulina Peak and two lakes within the caldera.

One of the most intriguing parts of the crater is the obsidian flow — over a mile in length and 200 feet deep, with huge chunks of obsidian scattered about like so many forgotten children’s toys.
