Northern ringnecks (Diadophis punctatus edwardsii) are small snakes, only reaching about 15 inches in length. They are a subspecies of ringnecks and are members of the Colubridae family.
The garter snake is the most common snake species in the state, but after that the most common are the black rat snake, the northern watersnake and the diminutive northern ringneck snake.
