A 58-foot boat that was illegally operated as a passenger charter by two uncredentialed crew members ran aground in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The boat - which was called Over the Moon - was registered to California and valued at $393,000. The seating capacity was equipped for 12 passengers.
Owned by tourist company Dive pro Liveaboard, the boat has space for 36 passengers and 12 crew members including a captain, cooks, waiters and sailors. At the time it sank, it was carrying 44 people.
