A giant 59.6 carat pink diamond sold for more than $71 million at Sotheby's in Hong Kong Tuesday, setting a record for the most expensive gem ever sold at auction, according to Bloomberg.

The Bleu Royal diamond is officially one of the most expensive diamonds ever sold at auction, with a whopping price tag of almost US$44 million (nearly C$60.7 million).

The highlight of an auction of high-end gems at the Park Hyatt hotel on Oct. 3 will be this pink diamond, held by Duncan Parker, head of the Canadian Gemological Society. (Sept. 21, 2010) ...
