Monster Hunter Wilds has taken over five years to develop, partly because 2018's Monster Hunter World was such a storming success for Capcom that it brought in droves of new players for the franchise.

But while Rise is the most recent Monster Hunter (and a very good game!), it's clear that Monster Hunter Wilds is a direct successor to 2018’s World rather than 2021’s Rise.

And, as Monster Hunters World, Rise, and now Wilds proves, it was well worth the effort. This is how Monster Hunter went from a domestic hit to a global force.

I believe the Monster Hunter World team has been working on this game since the release of Iceborne in 2019, which means they'll have had almost six years to develop it by the time it's out in 2025.
