The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus (from the series The Eighth Wonders of the World) After Maarten van Heemskerck, 1572. Found in the collection of the Bibliothèque municipale de Lyon.
The Mausoleum stood firm on its foundation for about 17 centuries. Some 16 years after completion, the tomb largely survived Alexander the Great’s conquest of Halicarnassus in 334 B.C.
