The Postal Service contends, as it did last year before a similar increase, that the price hike is needed to achieve financial stability.

Starting July 13, the cost of a Forever stamp, or mailing a 1-ounce letter, will increase from 73 cents to 78 cents, according to the USPS. Mailing a metered 1-ounce letter will increase from 69 cents to 74 cents. Additional ounces for letters will increase from 28 cents to 29 cents.
