Tony Magee, founder of Lagunitas Brewing Company, began brewing beer in 1993. Magee launched Lagunitas IPA in 1995 as an answer to the popular California pale ales like Sierra Nevada.

Saturday nights, friends en route, I’d grab six-packs of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Lagunitas IPA, or a dozen Brooklyn Lagers and half as much Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA.
