LCRA plans to build two electric generating units at LCRA’s natural gas-fired peaker Timmerman Power Plant in Caldwell County, with the first unit expected to be online later this year.
The new plant will be the second peaker plant in LCRA’s generation fleet. LCRA also owns and operates Winchester Power Park, a 184-MW natural-gas fired peaker plant in Fayette County.
The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) announced on Wednesday it has begun the $76 million, three-year project at the dam. The dam, which forms Lake LBJ, was completed in 1951 with nine floodgates.
The LCRA said it is now in Stage 1 of its drought contingency plan and it is requesting that its firm customers – mostly water districts, municipalities and industries – to reduce water use by 5%.
