Koala-la-la-la-la-la-la-la. An Australian family came home to a bear-y sweet surprise on Wednesday evening: a live, juvenile koala bear nestled in the branches of their Christmas tree.

Koalas are tree-dwelling animals that spend 18 to 20 hours a day sleeping. In hot weather, they slump on the trunks or branches of certain trees, pressing the front of their body to the tree.

The older koala clearly isn’t happy about this, and even tosses the young one right out of the tree! The young koala is visibly scared and upset, emitting a cry that sounds like a screaming baby.

The koala was safely released back into the neighbourhood of Coromandel Valley, South Australia, a region and habitat full of koalas. She scurried up into a nearby gum tree.
