The Sago Cycad has been a popular container and landscape plant for centuries. We usually see it here as a short, squat, palm-like tree, with a trunk to 12 inches in diameter and up to 10 feet tall.
Do not confuse the King sago palm with the Queen sago palm (Cycas circinallis). The Queen sago is a much larger plant growing 6 to 15 feet tall and 8 to 12 feet wide.
The plant is called the cycas revoluta, commonly known as the king sago — and it resembles a mini palm tree. It comes from Japan and has roots that are several million years old.
