Lava began bubbling Monday through the crust of one of the world’s most active volcanoes — Kilauea, on Hawaii’s Big Island.

Large glowing bombs, pumice and Peleʻs hair were deposited downwind during the peak of the eruption. Sulfur dioxide emissions were estimated to be more than 100,000 tonnes per day during the initial stages of the eruption and dropped to about half that by midday.

Kilauea Volcano is erupting again after a three-month pause, the U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said.Scientists described the eruption as “dynamic” and said the lava activity is confined to the summit caldera.
