Cherry trees line the central canal that runs through the city, and the mild climate provides the perfect opportunity to rent Yukata. This is a traditional Japanese dress worn by men and women.

The first cherry blossom viewing was organized in Japan by Emperor Saga in 812 C.E. In the ensuing years, poetry on cherry blossoms came to have a special place in Japanese culture.

Japan's cherry blossom season begins as first blooms appear in Tokyo Cherry blossoms, or “sakura,” are Japan’s favorite flower and usually reach their peak in late March to early April.

The two-day festival saw record crowds of more than 40,000 people last year, all celebrating the beauty of the Japanese Sakura, or the flowering cherry tree and its delicate pink blossoms.
