Israel is weighing an expansion of its armed presence in Gaza, even as military chiefs and a majority of the public oppose the idea out of concern for the fate of hostages still held by Hamas.

Among the Palestinians killed are scores of aid seekers and eight who lost their lives due to hunger and malnutrition.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a social media post Monday that the "humanitarian disaster in Gaza is rapidly deteriorating."
