Milton has exploded in strength in the Gulf of Mexico and is now a Category 3 major hurricane packing sustained winds of 120 mph with higher gusts, according to the National Hurricane Center. The hurricane is forecast to reach at least Category 4 strength early this week as it tracks east across the Gulf toward Florida.

Milton was tracking across the Gulf of Mexico bound for what could be a devastating crash along Florida's already storm-battered western coast.

But that kind of rapid intensification is frightening. If it keeps going, would Category 5 be enough to describe it? Do we need to add a Category 6? Some experts say yes, but don't expect to see one any time soon.
