The US handed over its last military base in Niger to the country's authorities, the US Department of Defense and Niger’s Ministry of Defense announced in a joint statement on Monday, Aug. 5, 2024.

As many as 200 more American troops have pulled out of Niger's 201 Air Base in Agadez in the latest withdrawal. Earlier in July, around 800 American troops had left the West African nation.
