Prospective elk and black bear hunters needed to apply for the annual license drawing by June 1. Results were available online June 23.

In the 2024 drawing, elk applicants had up to 22 chances to be selected: one chance for their current-year application plus up to 21 chances earned in previous elk drawings (2003-23).

In total, there were 6,278 bear licenses and 260 elk licenses available for the 2025 fall and winter hunting seasons. The DNR said hunters are responsible for obtaining their drawing results.
