Kiah Duggins was returning from visiting her mother, who was undergoing surgery in Kansas, when the civil rights attorney was killed in a plane crash in Washington, D.C this week.

Duggins, now 30 and a civil rights lawyer, was among the 60 passengers who died Wednesday night on Flight 5342 to Washington D.C.

Duggins served as the president of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, earned her bachelors’ degrees from Wichita State University, and completed a Fulbright grant in Taiwan after studying in Kansas.

Duggins was an attorney for Civil Rights Corps. and a former Miss Kansas contestant, KWCH reported. She grew up in Wichita, KS, and represented the Miss Kansas Organization as Miss Butler County.
