The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro feature Class 3 face unlock, the highest level of biometric security on Android. You can use Pixel 8’s face unlock to unlock banking apps, wallet apps, and now, WhatsApp.

On top of being more secure than the Pixel 7 series, the Pixel 8 Pro’s face unlock seems just a hair faster, too. I don’t have a good way to measure the difference — I’m not fast enough ...

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which were announced today, have this functionality. However, the Pixel 8’s Face Unlock will actually be more useful than the Face Unlock on other Pixel devices.

Google will let you unlock Pixel 7 models with Face Unlock, but that’s all you can do with it. You won’t be able to use it to authenticate apps and services, like Face ID.
