The costume had been expected to fetch between £160,000 and £230,000 (about $255,000 to $367,000 Cdn) at Christie's Popular Culture: Film and Entertainment sale on Thursday.

The costume is believed to have been made for The Empire Strikes Back, the second film in George Lucas's sci-fi series, released in 1980 and starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.
