International Paper said on Thursday it was shutting down four production facilities in the U.S. and laying off about 1% of its global workforce to tackle softer demand for its packaging products from e-commerce and consumer goods firms.

Memphis-based International Paper announced the closure of four facilities across the U.S., impacting more than 600 employees.

The company has closed multiple facilities throughout the country over the past few month resulting in over 2,500 jobs lost.
