These Paleolithic paintings, which include the oldest recorded Western cave work, known as the Cave of el Castillo in Spain, depict animals including mammoths, bison and horses.

Situated in Spain, the Cave of El Castillo contains some of Europe’s oldest cave paintings, including red handprints and animal art, dating back to around 40,000 years ago.
