The last Boer guerillas surrendered in May 1902. The British kept South Africa, but the war had been a debacle. For English Canada, the war was viewed as the country's initiation on the world stage.

South African Boer settlers were deeply religious farmers. The war formally began October 11, 1899, and ended May 31, 1902, and took place in what is now the Republic of South Africa.
