A 5.72-carat fancy intense blue diamond sold for more than $8.8 million, making it the top lot of a varied and successful Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction held Tuesday in New York.

During a 2016 auction, one such diamond, the “Oppenheimer Blue” diamond, was purchased for $57.5 million (over C$79.3 million).
