Back pay is the amount of salary and other benefits that an employee claims that they are owed. The most common reason to claim back pay is for wrongful termination.
If your employer might owe you back pay, there’s an easy way to check. Head over to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Workers Owed Wages (WOW) search tool on their website.
“By Wednesday, March 12, the Department will place all terminated probationary employees in pay status and provide each with back pay, from the date of termination,” the USDA said in a statement.
