Hurricane Milton was continuing to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico and was forecast to become a major hurricane later Monday as it inched toward a midweek landfall along the west coast of Florida, where residents are still reeling from the impacts of Hurricane Helene,

Forecasters say Milton is expected to be a hurricane small in size, but Jacksonville will still be impacted with rain, flooding and high winds.

Hurricane Milton strengthened into a Category 2 storm on Monday morning as it churned toward Florida, where it's expected to make landfall along the west coast on Wednesday.
