The National Theatre's production of "The Importance of Being Earnest," starring Ncuti Gatwa, has unveiled a trailer ahead of its cinema release.

London's National Theatre's dramatically reimagined revival of Oscar Wilde 's The Importance of Being Earnest, which began performances November 20, 2024, concludes its limited engagement January 25.

Despite its great many shortcomings, this Earnest still just about manages to be an enjoyable night out. The credit for that lies entirely with Wilde, and not at all with the misguided direction.

Mr. Bedford's production is not entirely effortless - Wilde's rococo style can be daunting even to experienced classicists - but it is more buoyant and consistently funny than any I've seen.
