The discovery of a potentially habitable 'super-Earth' exoplanet, HD 20794 d, was published in the scientific journal Astronomy & Astrophysics. Located approximately 19.7 light-years away from Earth in the Eridanus constellation, the exoplanet is considered part of our 'nearby neighborhood' on a universal scale, facilitating its study.

An international team, including researchers from UNIGE and NCCR PlanetS, has discovered a super-Earth, referred to as HD 20794 d, located about 19.7 light-years away from Earth. This planet is larger than Earth and orbits a G-type star similar to the Sun.

An exoplanet is a planet outside our solar system that usually orbits a star in our galaxy. More than 7,000 have been found in the Milky Way since the first confirmed discovery in the 1990s, and "billions more remain to be discovered", said Tech Explorist.

Astronomers have officially confirmed the existence of HD 20794 d, a super-Earth located just 20 light-years away, with conditions that could make it one of the most promising exoplanets for life beyond our solar system.
