Massachusetts residents should prepare for a messy weekend as a winter storm is expected to bring a mix of ice and rain along with strong winds.

New York and the US Northeast will pick up a few inches of snow overnight on Saturday from a winter storm that will also blanket the Midwest and southern Ontario.

Winter weather is gearing back up on Saturday as New York City and its surrounding area expect more storms of snow, sleet and rain, making for a wet weekend.

As of Thursday afternoon, Kines forecasts that this storm will reach the New York City area sometime in the first half of Saturday afternoon as snow, before transitioning to a wintry mix and rain later in the night.

Another winter storm will bring a wintry mix to New York City and the Tri-State area this weekend. Clouds will increase on Saturday morning, and snow will spread across the region by midday. Snowfall will continue for most of the area into the evening before a changeover to sleet and soaking rain as milder air arrives.

The tri-state area will get up to 5 inches of snow this weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Most will drop in the lower Hudson Valley and interior northeast New Jersey, where there will be a significant amount of ice accumulation on the ground.
